Let me introduce myself, Hi my name is Chris Phelps. I'm one of the
Tattoo artists here at Eternal Images. I'd like to start with answering one
of the most frequently asked questions I encounter, how did you become a
tattoo artist? Well it goes like this. I've always has a strong artistic
talent since childhood. I went to Cazenovia College for about 2 years for
advertising & graphic design. I started realizing toward the end of my
college career that the advertising & computer aspect of the art field wasn't
for me. I called it quits. A;thought still interested in art, I ended up
working odd jobs in just about every labor & construction field. Needless to
say, my talent was put on the back-burner.
At age 18, a friend of mine gave me my first tattoo. I became hooked
immediately! I didn't want to go back to him to get anymore. Seeing as how
we were in his kitchen & probably not under the most sterile conditions. I
started looking around. that's when I discovered Todd Hunter at his first
Bleeker Street shop, Eternal Images.
After about 8 years of designing my own work to have tattooed on me.
Todd and I had a conversation one day when I was at the shop. He explained to me how he wants to invite one more artist to the Eternal Images team. He
offered me the apprenticeship. I felt honored to be working alone side the
guys at the shop. With the reputation Eternal Images has earned, who wouldn't love this opportunity!?
I started tattooing in early March of 2003. To simply put it, I love
it! Finally, a chance to use all of my artistic talents. I don't consider it
work. It's more like helping people express themselves through body art.
When asked what style I prefer or enjoy? I tell them I don't try to
have a favorite genre. You have to be able to cover every style, because
every piece of work is specific to that person. Although I am a big fan of
the Black & Gray realism.
I think I've said enough. I look forward to many years with Eternal Images, helping you with your self expression. Hopefully I'll see you soon!
